In the heart of Nigeria, a silent battle rages against a formidable foe: the Human Papillomavirus (HPV), a prevalent infection that can lead to cervical cancer, the most common cancer among Nigerian women.

To combat this threat, the Nigeria Solidarity Support Fund (NSSF) has launched the WeNaija HPV Vaccine Video Contest, an empowering initiative that harnesses the creativity and influence of Nigerian youth to raise awareness and promote HPV vaccination among girls aged 9 to 14.

The Urgency of HPV Vaccination

HPV is a common virus that can infect anyone, regardless of age or gender.

While most HPV infections clear up on their own, persistent infections can lead to cervical cancer, a preventable disease that claims the lives of over 26,000 Nigerian women annually.

The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends that all girls between the ages of 9 and 14 receive the HPV vaccine before they become sexually active, significantly reducing their risk of developing cervical cancer.

The WeNaija HPV Vaccine Video Contest

Recognizing the critical role of youth in shaping societal norms and behaviors, the NSSF has initiated the WeNaija HPV Vaccine Video Contest.

This innovative contest invites young Nigerians between the ages of 18 and 35 to create and share compelling 30-120 second videos that educate the public about HPV, dispel misconceptions, and encourage HPV vaccination among girls.

Creativity for a Healthier Future

Participants are encouraged to showcase their creativity and storytelling prowess by crafting videos that resonate with their target audience.

The contest welcomes videos in English or Pidgin English, ensuring accessibility across diverse communities.

Whether through animation, live-action skits, or thought-provoking narratives, participants have the freedom to express their unique perspectives and engage viewers in meaningful conversations about HPV prevention.

Prizes and Recognition

The WeNaija HPV Vaccine Video Contest offers a range of exciting prizes to reward outstanding creativity and impact.

Top-tier winners will receive cash prizes of up to ₦5 million, while internship opportunities at leading organizations will further empower participants to pursue their passions and contribute to the health and well-being of their communities.
