Award Details
The WTO Essay Award seeks to recognize outstanding economic research focused on trade policy and international trade cooperation. The winning essay will be awarded CHF 5,000. If the essay is co-authored, the prize will be shared equally among the authors. The award will be officially presented at the ETSG annual meeting, scheduled for September 8-10, 2024, at the University of Groningen. The winning author will also receive funding to attend the conference.
Eligibility Criteria for the Award
To qualify for the award, the essay must address issues related to trade policy or international trade cooperation. Authors must hold or be completing a PhD degree and be under 30 years old or within two years of obtaining their PhD. For co-authored papers, all authors must meet these requirements. Essays should not exceed 15,000 words.
Selection Process
The Academic Selection Panel, consisting of Professor Beata Javorcik (University of Oxford), Professor Robert Staiger (Dartmouth College), and Professor Alberto Trejos (INCAE Business School), will review submissions. The Economic Research and Statistics Division of the WTO Secretariat will shortlist eligible papers by June 17, 2024, and the final selection will be made by July 15, 2024. Only shortlisted authors will be notified.
