The government of Niger State in northern Nigeria has established a committee to investigate allegations of sexual harassment against a primary school teacher at Karabonde Primary School in the Borgu Local Government Area. The teacher is accused of sexually assaulting 14 children, raising concerns that they may have been infected with the HIV virus.

The Niger State Board of Education has suspended the teacher pending the outcome of the investigation. A source revealed that the affected students are currently in the hospital undergoing medical check-ups to determine their health status and whether they have contracted HIV.

A resident of Karabonde expressed that the community is anxiously awaiting the results of the medical examinations to ensure the students’ health.

Hajia Hannatu Jibrin Salihu, the Niger State Commissioner for Education, is chairing the inquiry. The suspect is currently in police custody and will be handed over to the state government’s commission for further investigation once the police complete their probe.
