A schoolteacher has been accused of sexually assaulting a student in Niger
The government of Niger State in northern Nigeria has set up a committee to investigate allegations of sexual harassment against a primary school teacher.
Karabonde Primary School in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State is accused of sexually assaulting 14 children
which is why they are feared to have been infected with the HIV virus.
Niger State Board of Education says it has suspended the teacher pending the completion of an investigation
A source told Mana that the students are in hospital undergoing medical check-ups.
A resident of Karabonde said they were waiting for the results of their medical examination
to ensure the health of their students whether they have HIV.
Niger State Commissioner for Education, Hajia Hannatu Jibrin Salihu, is chairing the inquiry.
The suspect is currently being held by the police
The teacher, who is accused of sexually abusing children, will be handed over to a commission set up by the state government to continue its investigation as soon as the police have completed their investigation.
